Corn Shucking Peg
 

Pegs like this one were worn on the middle finger of early settlers to aid to shucking corn prior to shelling it. It is replicated and hand whittled to the exact length of the one on exhibit at the museum. This peg is made from native pine grown on the farm.  The string was originally used to loop tobacco onto a tobacco stick during the 1950ís.

Hand Split Tobacco Stick

 

This is one of the original hand split tobacco sticks.  Split from heart pine probably between 1900 and 1930.  Sticks like this were used to loop green tobacco leaves on for curing in the flue-cured tobacco barn.

Mill Sawn Tobacco Stick
 

Tobacco sticks were sawn at the sawmills during the 1940ís and the 50ís.  Sticks like this were used to loop green tobacco leaves on for curing in a flu cured barn.

Tobacco Grading Stick
 

This stick was hand whittled from a hand split tobacco stick.  Grading sticks were used to hold the hand tied cured tobacco to take to market.  The stick was removed once it got to the auction warehouse.
